Finding Your Way to Wellbeing

Dense forest of tall pine trees with a mountain and blue sky in the background.

Sometimes, when we seek therapy, our inner world can feel overwhelming, confusing, and scary. I think of my role as something like a wilderness guide. I do not know your particular inner landscape, but I have the knowledge and experience to help you navigate it safely and to appreciate its inherent wholeness. As we explore together, we will identify what is harming you, tend to what has been wounded, and build skills that help you feel better. Often, what seems overwhelming is not so threatening when we face it together.

As we explore, we also look for what nourishes you, celebrate your strengths, and notice the beauty and meaning that already exist within your own unique landscape.

Who am I?

I'm Cathy Brehaut, a therapist who supports individuals on their journey toward mental wellness and personal growth. I create a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your experiences and work toward positive change. I am located in Calgary and take clients virtually from all over Alberta.

My Approach

I draw from trauma-informed, attachment-based, and nervous system approaches (including Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems). I believe healing happens when we honour our body, and mind. We also need to understand ourselves in relationship, to others and to our social context. I understand how early experiences shape us, and will meet all parts of you with compassion rather than judgment.

I bring my whole self to this work—not as an expert with all the answers, but as a compassionate witness on your journey. My approach is enriched by intercultural experiences and my lived experience as a neurodivergent person parenting neurodivergent trans children.

I create affirming space for clients who are neurodivergent, queer, BIPOC or otherwise challenging the problematic Western ‘ideal’ of what it means to be human. I understand that much distress comes from living in systems not designed with us in mind, not from who we are.
